One of my goals is to get into decorating shops and cafes with unique and gorgeous murals as a way of injecting them with individuality and personality.
Recently I read a really inspiring article in the Sunday Times called “Wall Candy” (what an amazing name, why didn’t I think of that as a name for my business grrr). An artist called Frederick Wimsett was featured and he has done some stunning work for Alice Temperely’s store in Qatar. I adore the style and the aesthetic is one close to my heart with birds, blossom and use of gold embellishment.

Alice Temperley must have loved his work so much that he has also decorated her home in Somerset with gold peacocks (or maybe it was the other way round), but both are fabulous commissions.

Matthew Williamson, the fashion designer, is a big lover of De Gournay. A design company offering bespoke wall coverings which are truly divine. (I wrote about them in a previous blog). I came across hand painted wall paper he commissioned for his flagship store in London featuring birds carrying real jewels which are stuck to the wall! How opulent. I love the real tree in the store, so atmospheric. I’ve painted several tree murals and think they are a wonderful image to live with.

Another part of the store features some pretty purple butterflies:, a motif he uses a lot with his textiles.

On Pinterest I found a beautiful example of a mural in a café in Solvenia, totally unique and creating a magical atmosphere. However, the artist must have experienced a severe crick in the neck as all of the art work is on the ceiling!

Recently I was commissioned to paint some murals in a shoe shop in Tunbridge W ells called Stampede. It’s the go to place for kids shoes, and they now stock ladies shoes. I used birds, butterflies, glitter and painted their logo in juicy sparkly lettering. It was a great project and got some good feedback from the toddlers having their feet measured up.
